Appropriate Testing Schedule for Juniors
The SAT is given seven times a year and the ACT is given six times a year. On three of the test dates – NOT all of them – if a student
sends in extra money (ACT Test Information Release $19.00, SAT Question and Answer Service $18.00), he or she can get back the test
booklet back with answers and can study from the strengths and weaknesses before retaking later. The SAT dates when this service is
available are January, May and October and the ACT dates are December, April and June. Your student should sit for the December
ACT and for the SAT in either January or May if he or she plans to apply to universities which look favorably upon the SAT.
Students who do take both the ACT and the SAT should decide after one sitting which test they like better and on which one they
had better performances. Then they should RETAKE AND WORK ONLY WITH THE BETTER ONE! I have attached a concordance chart that
compares scores ALL four-year colleges will accept results from either test so you do not have to spend a lot of money - the costs of
the tests have increased sooo much - to keep retaking both tests. By the way, less than thirty percent of students in Ohio take
the SAT. It is NOT the be all and end all test as much as I may love it. I will send any family an annotated copy of the
Wednesday or Saturday PSATs, the December ACT and January SAT to work with at home. Just e-mail me
for copies when the tests are returned.
DO NOT SEND THESE JUNIOR SCORES TO ANY UNIVERSITIES. DO REGISTER FOR THE OPTIONAL ACT WRITING ESSAY.
I hope this info helps; however, ask me anything (!) if I have not made myself clear.
